Our team & our home.

Hadleigh Court is a family-run care home built on three generations of experience, values and commitment to caring for older people. More than a place of care, Hadleigh Court is a home; one where residents are welcomed as part of an extended family and supported to live with dignity, comfort and purpose.

At the heart of Hadleigh Court is our dedicated team. From carers and activities to housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, catering and management, every member of staff plays a vital role in creating a safe, warm and genuinely homely environment. We work together with kindness, respect and shared responsibility, ensuring residents feel secure, listened to and truly known.

Our approach is firmly person-centred. We take time to understand each person’s life story, routines, preferences and what matters most to them, allowing us to deliver care that is not only safe and professional, but personal, familiar and reassuring.

Chefs at Hadleigh Court

Our chefs

The chefs at Hadleigh Court prepare a daily choice of home-cooked meals, aiming for food that is familiar, appetising and easy to enjoy. Menus change regularly and include traditional favourites alongside lighter options and desserts.

The team use fresh ingredients and take into account residents’ preferences, medical needs and cultural or religious requirements. Texture-modified meals and other special diets are prepared with the same care and attention as every other plate.

Over time, the chefs get to know what each person likes – whether that’s a favourite pudding, a strong cup of tea or a particular way of serving breakfast. Small adjustments and alternatives help ensure that everyone is included at mealtimes and that eating and drinking remain a pleasure, not a worry.

Maintenance & environment

The maintenance team supports safety, comfort and continuous improvement across the home and grounds.

Our family heritage

The origins of Hadleigh Court date back to the years following the Second World War, a time when formal residential care homes did not yet exist. During this period, Wanda Bennett, Angelique’s grandmother, began opening her home to widows who had lost their husbands and had nowhere else to stay.

How it began

What started as a simple act of kindness — offering a safe place for one woman to live — gradually grew as more women came to stay. In those early days, there was no concept of a residential care home; it was simply people being welcomed into a family home. One resident became two, then three, and over time this compassionate approach naturally developed into a small residential setting.

1972 and beyond

In 1972, Wanda formally purchased Hadleigh Court, transforming it into a dedicated residential care home while preserving the values on which it was built.

The legacy was then carried forward by Wanda’s daughter, Christine Higgins, who continued to develop the home with stability, compassion and a strong commitment to residents, families and staff.

Today

Today, Hadleigh Court is led by Wanda’s granddaughter, Angelique Sawtell, who is committed to honouring the home’s heritage while ensuring Hadleigh Court meets the highest standards expected in today’s care environment. Angelique leads with a clear ambition to achieve an Outstanding level of care, combining long-standing family values with modern leadership, strong governance and a culture of continuous improvement.
